Products to Avoid
This is a list of commonly used skin care products that can have a detrimental effect on an Air Tan. This list is not all-inclusive. Not everyone will have a problem with these products – this is only a guide. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask your Air Tan Technician. A woman’s tan may develop differently during various hormonal changes (ovulation, menstruation, pregnancy). It may be streaky, patchy, fade worse or produce lighter or no color. The following products can lighten or make a sunless tan blotchy AHA Products (Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Glycolic, Lactic, Malic, Citric and Tartaric acids) that are commonly used in: Rejuvenating Complex Anti-Aging by Exuviance, Neova's Skin Revealing Treatment, Cleansing Cream by SkinCeuticals, The Cult Classic Kit by MD Skincare, Ultra-Rich Restorative Crème Intense Moisturization by Exuviance, Oil-Free lotion SPF 15 by NeoStrata, and MD Skincare's Alpha Beta Daily Body Peel.
Anti-acne products that exfoliate, or dry the skin, Accutane and Salicylic acid can affect your Air-Tan. Skin will peel which can look undesirable, especially with an Air-Tan. Antibiotics or other medications that affect your skin, can also affect your Air-Tan.
Anti-aging products that “renew” “refresh” “turn-over” or otherwise exfoliate skin. Bar soaps, especially deodorant, or antibacterial varieties. BHA Products (Beta Hydroxy Acids-Salicylic acid) often found in anti-acne washes and creams. Body hair bleach products. Biore type adhesive facial strips or “peel-off” masks. Bug spray, perfume, body spray when sprayed directly onto skin can remove or fade your Air-Tan. Spray on clothing or spray in air and walk through ‘cloud”. Curel Lotion can possible ruin an Air-Tan. Baby oil or gel can break up your Air-Tan. Dove soap, and Dove shower gel may fade an Air-Tan faster. Facial masks and exfoliating scrubs. Hair inhibiting lotions (Jergens etc.) can possible turn your Air-Tan yellow. If you exercise and sweat heavily, your tan can fade faster, especially in body fold areas. (Arm bends, knee bends, and between breasts). Better exfoliation and moisturizing can help. During the winter skin if often very dry and tan will fade faster. Switch to twice a day moisturizing use. Use a lotion after showering on damp skin and a heavier body cream, or body butter, just before bed. Body butter can also be used twice a day. Regular and superior exfoliation can be helpful. Makeup remover, cleansing products, or oils used to clean away makeup. Pat dry in the shower, do not rub. People with oily skin tend to develop a lighter tan than people with dry skin. The oils can cause dry skin to absorb more product, so it may look darker. Shaving exfoliates skin and fades your Air-Tan. A dull razor scrapes more skin and tan, use a sharp clean razor. Air Tan International does not recommend shaving cream or gel. Try using a shower gel or hair conditioner and wash off when done. Hot tubs, swimming pools and even long hot baths affect an Air Tan on some people. (An application of a thick waterproof sun block lotion helps). Sweating feet inside shoes can fade an Air Tan. Try applying a baby powder before sweating. Facial toners containing alcohols, witch hazel in the top three ingredients listed. Using a loofa, scrub, mitt etc. for daily washing will fade your Air Tan Wax or depilatory hair removal products (Nair, Veet, Neet, etc.)
